History

Lending it’s name to Verulamium, the Roman city next to St Albans, the River Ver is an ancient chalk stream whose history can be traced back to Roman Britain.

Redbournbury Fishery was founded by John Dunckley in 1987. The fishery covers approximately seven acres and consists of a stretch of the River Ver, a well stocked trout lake and the most recent addition, a course lake which opened in August 2009. Both lakes were originally dug out of old water cress beds, a produce Hertfordshire was once renowned for.

As well as the construction of a new course lake John is also working together with English Nature and the Environmental Agency to improve his stretch of the river.
